Three days are devoted to mourning, reconciliation, and coming to terms with the death of the closest relationship—la nonna. Christmas is not celebrated; instead, grief is allowed to take the place it deserves, and the intimacy of the relationship is honored. The layout of her apartment is reconstructed using bricks from her garden, and the most intimate religious and familial Sicilian rituals are reenacted within this space. The inherited clothes, pottery vessels, candles, and Christian heirlooms used during the performance are left on view in the installation throughout the exhibition.
